LP FALL 1 SEMESTER -2018 - ART IN REVERSE

We are starting afresh this new term by shaking up the routine – working in reverse! We are introducing the concept of negative space while having fun and being creative with the idea!

It is also about brushing up our little artists fine motor skills with the use of scissors combined with painting, drawing and collage making!

From the streets of New York to Wong Chuk Hang in Hong Kong, street art is an art form originated from painting murals on streets and building walls to raise awareness of the public.

In this semester, our children will be having fun in using sprays, stencils and markers to create art pieces inspired by street art! Complimented with the choice of bold and vibrant colours, it will surely be a semester to explore and be creative!

Spring 2 Semester 2018: The Kaleidoscopic World of Damien Hirst

Known for his paintings of butterflies and splashes filled with saturated hues of bubble gum pink, day-glo yellow and acid green, Damien Hirst’s art piece are exuberant and joyful!

Children will be encouraged to use saturated colours to create vibrant paintings of butterflies and splashes. It will be a semester where they will learn how to observe different patterns on butterfly wings and to create drawings inspired by the Rose Windows in Gothic Architecture that Hirst made reference to!

Feathered head-dresses, earth tone clothing, smudges of red paint on their faces and bodies, this image is a typical projection of Native Americans in popular culture, but is that all it is?

In this semester, we will be introducing some fun Native American folklore to inspire the children.  As they create their own ‘Native American’ works of art, your children will not only gain an understanding of tribal culture, their love of nature,  but also learn  about earth tones and geometric patterns.

It will be an exhilarating semester filled with drawing, painting and 3D art projects!

A SPIRAL is a simple yet magical shape. We all know that spirals exist everywhere in nature, from organisms as minute as a mollusc shell to weather patterns as huge as a hurricane, look carefully and you will find spirals!

Through introducing the famous artist Georgia O’Keeffe, our children will be learning to draw different organic objects inspired by spiral shapes with the use of wet on wet and layering washes a traditional watercolour technique!

Pandemonium in the Ocean - Winter 1 Semester 2017

Vast, mysterious and full of dangers — the ocean is not just home to sharks, anglerfish and stinging Jellyfish, it is also full of natural hazards such as whirlpool, tsunami, water sprouts and submarine volcanic eruptions. Yes! There are volcanoes under the sea!

This semester, we will be having fun in understanding the mechanics of such phenomenon and drawing it! Children will learn to observe and paint with various mediums, depicting all the pandemonium in the ocean!

Children express themselves visually the moment they start holding crayons, sharing their ideas, just as we do with the use of words. In this semester, children will be encouraged to create their own unique art journal! We will be introducing them to an inspirational story ‘WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?’ by Shinsuke Yoshitake, our little Picassos will learn to express their thought processes through journaling as in the story! Different mediums such as watercolour, markers, collage, crayons and washi tapes will be used.

As one of the most imaginative filmmaker/artist, Tim Burton is constantly inspired by his unique strange outer and inner worlds. In this semester, we will be going inside his world to have a glimpse into his intriguing creative process.

Children will be learning to create fictional characters inspired by the drawings and paintings of Tim Burton. It is all about pure creativity and quirky imaginations! True art can be as simple and compelling as doodling on random paper and napkins.

Paintings have always been regarded as figurative, containing something to be seen or imagined from them.

What if we combine music and paintings together?  In this semester,  we will be having fun in translating music into abstract painting just like Wassily Kandinsky or modern day artist Tim Bavington!

This semester is not just learning about the importance of line drawing, but also about having fun by creating textures and making collages. …And of course, the children will be creating their own musical instruments using recyclable materials!

When it comes superheroes in real life, it doesn’t have to be `kooks in costumes’. They can be selfless giving people who make a difference in your life such as your mom, your dad, class teacher or even your best friend!

In this semester, we will be spreading positivity to our lovely artists – they will be expressing what their real life superheroes are like through painting and craft making! Children will not just be learning about portrait painting, drawing action poses and using pop art colours, but will also have to take time to reflect on the positive intentions of each of their heroes. Hopefully absorbing how they too can have a superhero lasting effect others!

We are kick starting the new year of 2017 with the theme of winter woodland animals! While we are still in the midst of winter waiting for it to be over; we still never seem to see enough adorable winter animals such as foxes, squirrels, bears and arctic bunnies!

In this semester, children will learn about the habitat of winter woodland animals, and how they live through the harsh weather. Of course, it is also about technical drawing, understanding of negative and positive space and illustration style drawing!

VISUAL POEMS FOR A SNOWY SEASON – PAINTING LIKE PAUL NASH


It is the time of the year when trees shed their leaves, snow starts falling and we find comfort in a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows! Yes, in this semester, it is all about being inspired by British painter Paul Nash’s winter landscapes through the creative minds of children.

The children will learn about using colour tones to create their winter paintings. Through drawing snow, barren trees and frozen lakes they will learn about shadows and reflections as well.

FALL 2 SEMESTER - ASTOUNDING AZTEC ART

Rich in symbolism, remarkable in technology- Get ready as we are traveling back in time for a glimpse into vanished civilization of Aztec through their amazing arts and architecture!

Children will be using glue instead of pencil to draw, creating their own pattern with a combination of simple geometric shapes and getting creative by designing their own colourful Aztec headdress!

 


5 September – 14 October

FALL  1 – SEMESTER
MAPPING CITIES!

Of all the cities around the world, which is your favourite; London, Hong Kong, New York or Sydney? In this semester children will create maps of their own favorite cities. They will have fun while learning as they are shown various points of interest such as landmarks, amusement parks or famous local restaurants.

Apart from drawing and painting, children will get their hands sticky with dabs of glue and paint while making collages and splatter painted sculpture!

 



16 May – 30 June

SPRING  2 – SEMESTER
WHEN WEATHER MEETS ART!


How does different weather make you feel? Weather can make us feel moody with its violent storms, or delighted with its mild sunlight and gentle breezes.

In this semester, we are going to learn about how to express our feelings towards different weather conditions through art. It is all about understanding the concept of colour in relation to our feelings. We will be using a wide variety of mediums such as oil pastels, watercolour, texture making and collage! Come join us and let us explore how weather meets art!

Like most of us, American artist Wayne Thiebaud has a sweet tooth, all beautifully depicted in his paintings of cakes and candies!

In this semester children will be exploring the amazing world of sweets and desserts through Thiebaud’s paintings.  They will be learning about prism geometry, and the technique of scrape painting! Come join us now!

WINTER  3 – SEMESTER
THE FLOATING WORLD OF UKIYO-E

Japan is always regarded as one of the most magical and picturesque countries. What better way to explore the beauty of this ancient country than through the famous Ukiyo-e painters such as Katsushika Hokusai!

Apart from paintings, we will be creating 3d crafts such as Samurai helmets and Koi fish! Little artists should be prepared to get their hands dirty with paint and glue!

LP Winter Semester 2 - Journey to the Center of the Earth

Ever imagined what it would be like if our earth was hollow? Would it be endless dark tunnels, or would there be a micro climate, subterranean oceans and lots of extinct animals? In this semester, we will be recreating the story of Jules Verne’s classic fiction – Journey to the Centre of the Earth – through the artistic lens of your child!

Children will get to learn about landscape drawing with simple perspective and basic colour theory.

 


 

23rd November – 24th December
WINTER  1 – SEMESTER
LOVE OUR TREES!


Trees are more than just the lungs of our earth.  Trees are also a cosy home for animals, birds and insects.  We will be taking a close up look at trees to explore them and their habitats  — all with our imaginations and a splash of paint!

Children will be creating wonderful masterpieces with beautiful colours of nature in our positive learning environment!
